Malinga Productions Community Projects

As a social enterprise, Malinga Productions aims to not only involve local communities in our creative productions, but also to contribute to skills training and creative forms of personal and community development. Our community services include music and dance workshops, video training, capacity building and participatory research. Here are a few of our active community projects:

Tanga Pasi Music Project

Tanga Pasi is a community band based in Plumtree, led by Sinini. The band is the focus of a skills-development and creative enterprise, aiming to uplift the community and contribute to reflecting on and approaching community problems.

The CCS Durban Community Video Resource

We have led an extensive video capacity building program at the University of KwaZulu-Natal's Centre for Civil Society (CCS). Download presentation here

Ngwana Women's Craft Group

Pamela, Monica Ngwenya and Sifelani Moyo are founding members of the craft group, which involves about 10 young women in craft skills development, coached by village elders. After spending a year developing our skills through different workshops (including basketry and needlework) we will then launch a small business and product line. Already, we have managed to sell 30 baskets and thereby raise money to invest in materials for the sewing workshops.

Clean Water for Ngwana

On belhalf of the local community, we are currently managing a community borehole project, working to provide Ngwana residents with access to clean drinking water. This project is funded by the Embassy of Poland.

Books for Schools

In 2009, on behalf of Matjinge High School in South Madebeleland, we managed a project funded by the Embassy of Poland. The project involved the management of funds, sourcing and procurement of US$12,000 worth of text books for the school. We also ran a 'buy a book' project for a Ngwana Primary School, resulting in the purchase of around 100 books.
