Community Videos in Durban
Participatory Video Workshops: anti-xenophobia research program
We are working with the Centre for Civil Society as part of a wider research program on the issue of xenophobia in South Africa. Participatory video workshops were conducted with community groups in Durban. All participants were first time video-makers and were asked to consider how xenophobia affects their community.
Reports can be viewed for the following anti-xenophobia participatory video workshops: Chatsworth, Crossmoor, Cato Manor
Participatory skills training workshops
Other participatory video workshops and short courses have been held in Durban, as part of a wider capacity-building program to create a community video resource at the CCS and support teams of community-based film makers. In 2010, thirty people were trained in basic video production and twelve of these trainees went on to undertake a course in participatory video facilitation. We hope to develop this project in 2011,to provide more training opportunities and interactive workshops for skills development and sharing.
